My Values

I am a Quaker; a Christian; a Buddhist; and a follower of the Way of Hermes.

I believe that by Christ’s sacrifice alone we are justified, and by following Christ’s path we become sanctified. It is with reverence that God created the world for us, and made us in his image, for the sole purpose for us to bear witness to his creation. Thus that same reverence is due in return.

I believe that by holding God’s creation in reverence without commiting harm to it (and by extension, to others), is to live in harmony with God’s commandments.

I believe that God made us so that we could experience, enjoy, grow and play in his creation. He built this place hoping that we would appreciate, admire, and revere the gift of life he granted to us. We are all made in God’s image and are thus worthy of love, friendship, empathy, kindness, respect, and community.

I believe that there is that of God, in all of us.

These are my values…
#

Simplicity

As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned the value of slowing down, and acting with intent. I’ve learned the importance of removing the things from my life which hold me back. The value of letting go…

Peace

I greatly value silence, solitude and peace. I abhor violence in all its forms, including state sactioned violence. I do not support the death penalty, war, militarized law enforcement…

Integrity

It is not the method used that constitutes dishonesty but whether or not one’s true intent is being hidden from the other person. What matters is what is in your heart when you speak.

Honor

Honor is not gained at the gym. It doesn’t come through boastfulness, competition or violence but by standing, silent, in vigilence, protecting our most vulnerable from harm.

Community

We are social creatures who need friends, community, and social cohesion to flourish. Conversation is the spice of life and community is its fount. We are all called to be friends to one another.

Empathy

Everyone is facing a stuggle you know nothing about. Different people struggle in different ways and yet, we are still called to love and care for one another.

Kindness

In every interaction with another we have the choice between cruelty and kindness. Kindness can be cultivated through gratitude and reverence for creation and for each other.

Stewardship

As a Boy Scout I was taught to always leave things better than the way I found them. I think that is a good way to live life. God granted us a garden. It is important we take good care of it.
