We are commanded to love one another. John 13:34 states:
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you should also love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” ~ Jesus
or if you prefer a secular version:
“All you need is love.” ~ The Beatles (bigger than Jesus, apparently)
To be fair, I’m a big fan of both.
In Paul’s ministry to the Romans he warned that we are due the judgement that we give to others. Paul was preaching about the importance of reserving judgement and showing grace. We are all made in God’s image, and yet no two of us are alike. Different people struggle in different ways and yet, we are still called to love one another.
We are are all due the grace of understanding. We have a duty to support others when they are struggling. We should seek ways to understand the struggles that others are facing with kindness, and patience and offer assistance when appropriate. This is the essense of what it means to love one another.
