As a Boy Scout I was taught to always leave things better than the way I found them. I think that is a good way to live life, in all the places we go, and in all the things that we do. God granted us a garden. One garden. It is important we take good care of it.
There is a quote I am quite fond of from science fiction. In The Expanse, the ambassador to Mars is visiting Earth and is having a conversation about the intense passion, honor and drive of the Martian people. He ends the conversation with this:
“Imagine. An entire society dedicated to turning a dead rock into a garden. We had a garden, and we paved it.” ~ Earth’s Abassador to Mars
Or if you prefer another musical reference:
“They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot!” ~ Counting Crows
I do not think concerete, glass and steel was what God has in mind for his Eden. We need to work together to restore God’s garden on Earth and protect his creation from harm. I sometimes wonder how future generations will think of us. How will they judge us? Would we live up to their expectations or will we disappoint them?
